A Weekend Wedding on Madeline Island

Last August, I traveled to Wisconsin to capture an incredible wedding weekend for Antonia and Dan at The Lakehouse on Madeline Island. I love when couples create a celebration that feels completely their own, relaxed, meaningful, and centered around connection.

From the very beginning, Antonia and Dan knew they wanted to make their wedding more than just one day. Their weekend started with a laid-back engagement session on the island, surrounded by calm water, tall pines, and the golden evening light that makes Wisconsin summers so magical. Those photos now feel like a quiet reflection of their story — candid, full of laughter, and deeply personal.

The next day brought the rehearsal and welcome party. These are some of my favorite parts of a wedding weekend to photograph because they’re so full of real, unguarded moments. Friends reunited, family members met for the first time, and everyone gathered to celebrate long before the ceremony even began.

Wedding Day on Madeline Island

The wedding day itself, beautifully planned by Mary from Pure Event, was everything they had envisioned: heartfelt, joyful, and surrounded by nature. The ceremony took place outdoors overlooking Lake Superior, with the soft sound of the waves in the background. Antonia and Dan exchanged emotional vows while the late-summer breeze carried laughter and happy tears through the air.

Throughout the day, I focused on capturing the moments that truly told their story — the hugs after the ceremony, the quiet glances between them during dinner, the dance floor exploding under a canopy of twinkly string lights.

Antonia and Dan’s wedding weekend at The Lakehouse on Madeline Island reminded me why I love travelling to Wisconsin as a photographer. When couples choose to slow down and celebrate over several days, it allows their story to unfold naturally. Every little moment — from the pre-wedding excitement to the final song of the night — becomes part of a beautiful, complete narrative.

If you’re planning a wedding in Wisconsin or dreaming of a full weekend celebration that feels like you, I’d love to help you tell your story in an authentic, documentary way. Contact me to learn more about my approach and availability for 2027 destination weddings.
