As an engagement photographer in Virginia, it will come as no surprise that cherry blossom season is madness! When Heather contacted me about doing their engagement photos at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, I was really excited to work in a peaceful environment compared to the Tidal Basin.
Plan your session at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens
I love Virginia for engagement sessions because it offers a lot of outdoor locations (Did I write a blog about it? Yes, you bet I did! “Check out 10 Outdoor Engagement Photo Locations in Northern Virginia”). Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is one of a kind, and that’s why you need to know a few things before planning your engagement session there:
-
Let’s talk cost. You need to obtain a permit by contacting the park ahead of time. It will cost you about $50, which allows you to be there for an hour with your photographer (I have to wear a badge). You also still have to pay for three entrances ($18) to enter the garden.
-
If you are planning to go during the spring/fall peak blossom or foliage season, do not schedule your session on a weekend. This place is very popular and can get a little crazy.
-
Map out your location before going, as the park is quite big, and one hour goes by really fast!
I book March months in advance because everybody wants their engagement photos to look dreamy. I get it, DC Cherry Blossom is one of a kind! What’s also important is to find a location that is not as crowded as the Tidal Basin. That’s why I wrote a list of the “8 Best Cherry Blossom Locations in DC Apart from the Tidal Basin”.
