When a couple chooses the Josephine Butler Parks Center for their wedding in Washington DC, you know they value history, architecture, and charm—and Lizzie and Ian were no exception. They tied the knot on a warm June afternoon in this stunning 1927 Renaissance Revival mansion, right across from Meridian Hill Park. But this day came together with the hard work of Candy and Co Events, who did an amazing job for this couple.
From the start, their day felt laid-back and intentional. Friends and family filled the sun-soaked rooms, laughter echoing through the wide hallways as Lizzie and Ian got ready upstairs. One of the most beautiful parts of this venue is how it lets the day unfold naturally, with no need to overly decorate or stage anything. The beauty is already there.
They held their ceremony in front of tall windows that let the light stream in just right. You could feel the emotion in the room as vows were exchanged, with happy tears, quiet smiles, and the occasional burst of laughter.
Afterward, everyone flowed into the first floor for cocktails. That’s one of the reasons I love this venue—it feels like a secret oasis in the middle of the city. The reception followed in the main ballroom, full of heartfelt speeches, spontaneous dancing, and the kind of energy that only comes from a group of people who really love being together.
As a wedding photographer who focuses on genuine moments and human connection, this day was a dream. From little details like stolen glances to big bursts of joy during the dance floor chaos, it was the kind of celebration that doesn’t need perfection to be unforgettable—it just needed Lizzie and Ian.
