A Mutual Proposal at President Lincoln’s Cottage

Asher and Laura’s proposal story is one of my favorites because it’s so beautifully them. Instead of one asking the other, they planned a mutual proposal, both ready with rings, both ready to say yes at President Lincoln’s Cottage.

Emotional moment of a couple exchanging rings during a mutual proposal in Washington DC

President Lincoln’s Cottage felt like the right place for such a special moment. Just a short walk from their home, it’s a familiar space they love, surrounded by history and calm.

When the moment came, they showed their rings at the same time. Both of them were laughing, crying, and a little surprised that they’d timed it so perfectly. Emotional tears turned into pure joy as they discovered each other’s rings, an unforgettable exchange of love and commitment.

Afterwards, we walked the grounds together for a short engagement session. The air felt light, filled with excitement and relief, as they soaked in the start of this new chapter.

What I love most about their story is how equal and authentic it felt. No stage, no audience—just two people in love, promising forever in the most personal way possible.
