Sunset Engagement Session in Meridian Hill Park

Daniel and Katie live right across Meridian Hill Park, also known as Malcolm X Park in Washington DC, so it was hard not to plan their engagement session there.

Lay-back engagement photos

When they contacted me, they wanted an engagement and wedding photographer who would get them and not force posing on them. He started to talk about what kind of session they wanted and why they needed an engagement session. Katie started to explain that they wanted “at least ONE good photo of them” for their save-the-dates that would be designed by Daniel’s brother. But they also wanted their dog to be part of this first experience.

Thanks to my experience, I always get my couples and how to create a unique session for them. I started by looking at the location possibilities and what would be the easiest to include their fur friend. We agreed that Meridian Hill Park was the easiest way to start the session as it was literally five minutes away from their apartment. For the second part of their engagement, we decided to finish in another park in the neighborhood of Adams Morgan. It was a no-brainer as they adore this area of DC. They dropped off their dog and we walked to our second location.

The park has many advantages: the green backdrop, the many quiet spots where no one is, and the architecture of the fountain. I always find it very inspiring whether the sun is out or if it’s a cold day in February. This park is not only a great location for an engagement session in Washington DC, but it’s also a lovely place to get married. In the blog post, “How to Get Married in Meridian Hill Park”, I help couples schedule and plan their wedding.
