10 Gorgeous Mountain Wedding Venues in Virginia

TIPS FROM A VIRGINIA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

All my couples who got married in the mountains had one thing in common: they were all in for epic photographs. As a wedding Virginia photographer, I have picked some of my favorite venues that can offer beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. But first, let’s talk about the pros of planning a wedding in the mountains.

And if you are looking for a Virginia wedding photographer, you can contact me.

The advantage of having a mountain wedding in Virginia

During wedding planning, pros and cons lists become a daily routine. I found six great reasons to organize your wedding in the heart of what nature has the best to offer.

  1. With the stunning views of the mountains and acres of nature surrounding you, you and your spouse-to-be will exchange vows in one of the most gorgeous landscapes you can find in Virginia.
  2. If “rustic” is the word that comes to mind when you think of your dream wedding, then you will find amazing barn venues in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
  3. If you love long walks and breathing some fresh air before your wedding day, put your hiking shoes on and go on an adventure in the Shenandoah Valley.
  4. The weather is better for summer weddings. We all know how it can get hot during the summer. If you opt for a mountain wedding, you will not have to worry about sweat! Everyone will be cool and feel comfortable in their wedding attire.
  5. Two words: Fall Colors. You probably know it: the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley are the best places to see the fall colors that October brings in. This is a very good reason, mostly because your photographs are going to have so many beautiful colors!

Irvine Estate and House Mountain Inn

This is a two-in-one wedding venue. The view- if not rainy or foggy- is amazing. Ben and Michaela’s wedding was still beautiful and I loved every minute of it! The rustic décor and feel are amazing and exactly what my couple was looking for. The atmosphere and views that both of these venues provide are breathtaking. Picture-perfect moments live within every aspect of this place. Your only problem will be choosing between the two venue spaces: House Mountain Inn with its cozy log cabin vibe or Irvine Estate with its stunning panoramic views of the mountains. To add to that, the staff is truly amazing and I have been happy to work with them, they made my life so easy, and they will with you too!

Irvine Estate and House Mountain Inn: 455 Lonesome Dove Trail, Lexington, VA 24450. Phone: (540) 464-4004.

Mountain Ridge Venue

Mountain Ridge Venue is located 10 miles from River Ridge Mall in the beautiful town of Rustburg, Virginia. Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter? You will always be comfortable in their heated and air-conditioned barn. Moss Vineyards

This place is such a hidden gem! The venue is absolutely beautiful and the fact that there’s a covered space in case of rain worked out in your favor in case of bad weather. The ceremony pavilion and the reception hall are fantastic and the view is unbelievable. There is plenty of space for your ceremony (in the covered pavilion), cocktail hour (in the tasting room!), and reception (in the quite new reception hall). Moss Vineyard’s wine is also some of the best you will have around, and you will definitely receive a lot of compliments on it from your guests.

Moss Vineyards: 1849 Simmons Gap Rd, Dyke, VA. Phone: (434) 990-0111.

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards

Located right outside the beautiful city of Charlottesville, Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyards boasts the most stunning views and offers a fantastic venue for both ceremony and reception that includes catering (the food is to die for) and rentals (tables, chairs, dinnerware, etc.). They offer all-day use of a stunning bridal loft and access to the entire winery including its gorgeous tasting room (a definite must if you are ever in the area). The views are breathtaking and the rustic granary ballroom absolutely spectacular.

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards: 5022 Plank Road, North Garden, VA. Phone: (434) 202-8063.

Mountain Lake Lodge

The views, the staff, the location, and the rustic feel. It's all there on top of a gorgeous mountain. It also doesn't hurt that Dirty Dancing was filmed there. You can have your ceremony at the gazebo which is gorgeous, and our reception at Mary's Barn. There will be so much room for the dance party we had after dinner, which is always the best part of the wedding. There's nothing like spending more time with your wedding guests, and that's exactly what we will get staying at Mountain Lake.

Mountain Lake Lodge: 115 Hotel Circle, Pembroke, VA. (540) 626-7121.

12 Ridges Vineyard

If you are looking for a quiet and calm venue, I strongly encourage couples to consider this venue. Go visit for yourselves, take a glass of wine up to the hilltop, and just imagine. 12 Ridges is the highest-altitude vineyard and tasting room in Virginia, giving couples the freedom to select an intimate tasting room or an expansive outdoor setting. Wedding parties will have access to the tasting room, a 7,500 square-foot deck with mountain views, an intimate garden area, or the 360-degree hilltop with magnificent, panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

12 Ridges Vineyard: 24981 Blue Ridge Parkway, Vesuvius, VA. (804) 385-4253.

The best way to tell honest stories is through keen observation. How do I know? Because I spent 15 years as a journalist before becoming a wedding photographer.

By paying attention to the ways you interact with your loved ones, I capture the in-between moments that will, one day, be significant. And using a trained eye and subtle approach, I do so unobtrusively.

As one of the top 120 wedding photojournalists in the world according to the Wedding Photojournalist Association and a member of the World’s Best Wedding Photographers, I know exactly when to step in and capture a moment - without overtaking the interaction.
