If you’re dreaming of exchanging vows surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, you’re in good company. Mountain weddings in Virginia are some of my absolute favorites to photograph: the light, the scenery, and the sense of place are hard to beat. I’ve put together this list of venues I genuinely love, covering everything from vineyard estates to rustic lodges tucked into the hills. Whether you want sweeping panoramic views or a quiet valley setting, there’s something here for you.

Why a Mountain Wedding in Virginia Is Worth It

Before you dive into the venue list, here’s why I keep coming back to these settings — and why couples who choose them rarely regret it:

  1. The scenery does the heavy lifting. When you’re standing in front of the Blue Ridge Mountains, every portrait location is already stunning.
  2. Barn venues abound. If rustic is your aesthetic, Virginia’s mountain region has some of the most beautiful barn spaces in the mid-Atlantic.
  3. Summer weddings stay cooler. Elevation makes a real difference — your guests (and your wedding party) will thank you.
  4. Fall color is unmatched. October in the Shenandoah Valley is genuinely one of the most beautiful places to get married in the country.
  5. It feels like a destination without actually being one. Many of these venues are 2–3 hours from DC — close enough to drive, far enough to feel like an escape.

Irvine Estate & House Mountain Inn

By Natasha Lamalle Photography

Lexington, VA | Mountain estate | Panoramic views

This is genuinely one of my favorite venues in Virginia. Irvine Estate and House Mountain Inn sit on the same private mountain property, just out of sight of each other, and together they offer two completely different atmospheres. House Mountain Inn has a warm log cabin feel; Irvine Estate opens up to panoramic mountain views that stop people in their tracks. I photographed Michela and Ben’s wedding here on a rainy October day, and even with the weather working against us, the covered terrace ceremony with that mountain backdrop was breathtaking. The staff is exceptional and made the day run smoothly from start to finish.

  • Type: Private mountain estate (two venues in one)
  • Style: Rustic-elegant, mountain panoramic
  • Starting price: Contact for pricing
  • Address: 455 Lonesome Dove Trail, Lexington, VA 24450

Moss Vineyards

Dyke, VA | Vineyard | Hidden gem

Moss Vineyards is one of those places I love telling couples about because most of them haven’t heard of it yet. The ceremony pavilion is covered (a huge bonus if you’re planning an outdoor wedding and want peace of mind), the tasting room makes for a beautiful cocktail hour space, and the reception hall is relatively new and spectacular. The mountain views from this property are unbelievable, and their wine consistently gets compliments from guests. If you’re a wine-loving couple who wants something a little off the beaten path, this one should be on your shortlist.

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards

North Garden, VA | Vineyard + granary ballroom | Full-service

Pippin Hill is one of the most complete wedding experiences in Virginia. Located just outside Charlottesville, the property offers stunning vineyard views, an incredible rustic granary ballroom, a beautiful bridal loft for getting ready, and all-day access to the tasting room. Catering and rentals are included, which simplifies planning considerably. The food is genuinely exceptional. If you want a venue that handles a lot of the logistics while still feeling atmospheric and personal, this is a strong contender.

Mountain Lake Lodge

Pembroke, VA | Mountain lodge | Full weekend feel

This is the Dirty Dancing venue. But beyond that piece of pop culture history, Mountain Lake Lodge is genuinely a spectacular place to get married. The ceremony gazebo is gorgeous, the reception in Mary’s Barn leaves plenty of room for a real dance floor, and the whole property has that magic combination of remote and welcoming. What I love most about it from a photographer’s perspective is how much personality the setting brings on its own — and how much time couples get to spend with their guests when everyone’s staying on property together.

  • Type: Mountain lodge
  • Style: Rustic, iconic, destination feel
  • Starting price: Contact for pricing

Vesuvius, VA | Hilltop vineyard | 360° views

12 Ridges is the highest-altitude vineyard and tasting room in Virginia, and it shows. The venue offers a range of settings — from the intimate tasting room to a 7,500 square-foot deck to an open-air hilltop with nothing but mountain views in every direction. For couples who love wine and wide-open skies, I strongly encourage a visit. Go up, have a glass, and just imagine.
