Is Hendry House the Right Arlington Wedding Venue for You?
This venue is a great fit for couples with a smaller guest list (think under 65 seated indoors, or up to 150 with a tent on the lawn) who care more about a relaxed, nature-filled day than a grand, formal one. I shot a wedding here for a couple with about 70 guests who wanted exactly that: budget-friendly, set around the house’s historic character, with lawn games and family time built into the day.
It’s probably not the right fit if you want full privacy. Fort C.F. Smith is a public park, so it’s possible for park visitors to walk near or through your event space during the day. Couples who want a fully private, exclusive-use property should look elsewhere. The flight path from DCA is also worth knowing about ahead of time. Planes do pass overhead, and it can affect the ceremony audio if you’re not using mics.

Photo and Timeline Tips for a Hendry House Wedding
My favorite portrait spots are right in front of the house and throughout the surrounding park. The grounds give you flexibility, but because there isn’t a ton of dramatic architecture or landscaping beyond the house itself, you do have to get a little creative to keep the portraits feeling varied and not repetitive.
Timeline tip: if your guest count is above 50, build a real rain plan into your day. The lawn and tent setup work beautifully in good weather, but there isn’t a strong indoor backup for a larger group if the weather turns.

Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Hendry House
What I love about shooting here is the open space and the option to bring in a tent, which is exactly what made the day work for my couple. It’s historic, it’s close to DC, and it doesn’t feel cookie-cutter.
