As a wedding photographer based in the DC area, I have photographed a few events at Riverside on the Potomac Wedding Venue. Here’s a complete guide to help you understand if this location is perfect for your wedding!
Riverside on the Potomac Wedding Venue
Venue Name: Riverside on the Potomac
Location: Leesburg, Virginia (Loudoun County)
Vibe in 3-5 words: Rustic, historic, working farm
One-sentence gut description: It’s an 80-acre working farm with the largest restored barn in Loudoun County, so you get rustic charm without giving up climate control or comfort.

Who Riverside on the Potomac Wedding Venue Is For
Couples who want that rustic-meets-elegant barn look but don’t want to sacrifice modern comfort will feel right at home here. The property suits larger guest lists well, since the barn seats up to 300 and the grounds have hosted weddings as small as nine guests and as large as 350. It’s also a great fit for couples who want a countryside, pastoral setting without leaving Northern Virginia entirely behind, since Leesburg sits close enough to DC for most guests to make the drive.

What Stands Out at Riverside on the Potomac Wedding Venue
The Historic Bank Barn is the calling card here. It’s the largest restored barn in the county, and it’s fully climate-controlled with clear plexiglass strips worked into the walls to preserve the historic look while still allowing heat and air conditioning. The Waterfall Terrace is the other signature space, with a working waterfall and pond that give the cocktail hour a completely different feel from a standard patio.
The working-farm element also tends to surprise guests. This isn’t a venue dressed up to look rustic. It’s an actual property with horses, hay fields, and polo grounds.

Photo + Timeline Considerations
Portrait locations: the pond next to the ceremony space, the pastures and paddocks surrounding the barn, and the Gardens or Cattail View area for a more manicured look.
Best time of day: any time really, there is always a way to work with the available lights or play with all the strings light to create stunning portraits.

Practical Details
Indoor/outdoor options: Both. Outdoor ceremony sites include the Waterfall Terrace, the Gardens, the Cattail View, and the Historic Log Chapel Grounds for smaller weddings. If weather doesn’t cooperate, the Long Stable Gallery, the Stable, or the Historic Reception Barn all serve as covered backups.
Max guest capacity: 300 seated for dinner, though the venue has hosted events up to 350.
Starting price: Rental fees range from $3,500 to $7,995 for a ceremony and reception, covering a 9-hour event window that includes setup and cleanup time. Pricing varies by season, with peak season starting around $8,000 and off-peak starting around $6,000. Couples typically spend around $9,000 in peak season and $7,000 in off-peak season once add-ons are factored in.
Parking/shuttle: The venue provides golf carts to ferry guests around the property. Worth noting for couples: GPS apps like Waze and Google Maps sometimes route visitors down the wrong dirt roads, so the venue recommends coming via Route 15 North to Route 662 (Lucketts Road) to Route 657.
Vendor access/flow: The venue is BYOB. Couples can use the venue’s approved caterer list or bring an outside caterer with proof of insurance, licensing, and a pre-arranged site visit. Only one event is held per day, so there’s no back-to-back turnover to worry about.

Natasha’s Perspective
What I love about photographing here
The mix of pond and barn is what makes Riverside stand out for me. Katie and Zack’s fall wedding is the one I think of when people ask what this venue is really like. Their ceremony sat right beside the pond with a string quartet playing, then by nightfall we were under the wood beams and string lights in the barn for a completely different feel. Not many venues give you that much range in a single day.
My favorite shot I’ve ever taken at this venue
During the ceremony, both of Katie’s parents walked her down the aisle. I caught the moment right as she reached the end of the aisle, the pond just visible behind her, her expression still catching up to everything happening at once.
A tip I’d give another photographer shooting here for the first time
Walk the manor house early, since the bridal party gets ready inside, surrounded by original wood paneling and antique furniture, and those rooms have dark corners that eat light if you’re not paying attention. Also get down to the ceremony site before guests are seated. The pond sits right behind the altar, so figuring out your angle before chairs fill in saves you from scrambling once the processional starts.
